Native game bird species in NSW can only be hunted under the native game bird management program of the Department of Primary Industries (DPI).
This program allows landholders to sustainably manage native game birds on agricultural lands in NSW.
Once you hold a management licence, you can:
- Find volunteer hunters by using the Hunter and Landholder registers, or
- Apply for your own NSW Game Hunting Licence after you complete the Waterfowl Identification Test so you can manage native game birds yourself.
You may be eligible if you
- are an owner or occupier of private land used for agricultural purposes and need to manage native game birds, you can apply for a NSW Native Game Bird Management (Owner/Occupier) Licence
- hold a current NSW Game Hunting Licence that is endorsed for native game bird hunting.
To apply for a licence you will need to visit the DPI website and check full eligibility and requirements.
