How to get a vehicle registration concession

Your eligibility is automatically checked and concessions applied when you:

If you're eligible, you do not pay for:

  • registration fees
  • motor vehicle tax
  • conditional registration fees
  • HVIS inspection fees. 

You may be also be eligible for automatic rego renewal.

Some Department of Veterans' Affairs pensioners are eligible for free transfer fee and stamp duty.

If you're not sure about your registration details, you can check your registration details online.

What happens next

If your eligibility is confirmed, your fee payment is calculated at the concession rate.

If your eligibility cannot be confirmed, you'll receive a letter asking you to visit a Service NSW Centre or call 13 22 13.

If you are not eligible, you'll receive a renewal notice with details of the vehicle registration fees.

Concession limits

The registration concession is for one vehicle per person.

If the vehicle is registered in joint names the concession applies only if both of you are eligible.

Interstate-issued pensioner concession cards are not acceptable for claiming a concession in NSW.

Eligibility

You must be a NSW resident with an eligible pension from Services Australia or the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA).
