Introduction

A limited licence for a trade fair allows organisations and businesses to sell or supply alcohol to take away or consume at a trade fair or exhibition.

Examples where these licences are required may include:

  • wine shows
  • food shows
  • agricultural shows
  • travel shows
  • outdoor equipment shows.

Note: Applications must be submitted at least 28 days before the start of the function.

Eligibility

  • You must be 18 years or older, and hold an RSA certificate or competency card.
  • You’re not eligible if you’ve been suspended or disqualified from holding a liquor licence.

What you need

  • a OneGov account
  • your contact details
  • evidence of your Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) qualifications
  • details of the trade fair’s venue, business owner and interested parties
  • a plan clearly showing the proposed boundaries for the licensed area and key features, including entry/exit points, bar areas, any adjoining streets and the direction North
  • details about where and when the trade fair will be held and other details such as what liquor, food, entertainment and security will be available at the event
  • estimated patron attendance at the trade fair
  • details of the steps put in place to prevent intoxication
  • payment.

If applicable:

  • a copy of development consent or approval for the licence at your venue from your local council
  • requested liquor trading hours for consumption on premises and take away sales
  • completed applicant declaration – PDF

How to apply

  1. Check the eligibility requirements.
  2. Gather the required documents.
  3. Select the ‘Apply online’ button.  
  4. Register or sign in to OneGov.
  5. Complete the online application form. 
  6. Upload and attach your supporting documents.
  7. Enter your payment details.
  8. Read and confirm the declaration.
  9. Submit your application.

Note: Immediately before submitting your application, or within 2 working days, lodge a notice (which is part of the application form), and a copy of the application to:

  • the local police station
  • local council or other consent authority
  • any other local council or consent authority within 500 metres of the premises
  • the Lands division of NSW Department of Primary Industries, if the trade fair premises are on Crown land.

Once your application is lodged, it will be advertised on the Liquor & Gaming Application Noticeboard for 30 days for community consultation.
