About the register

The NSW Carers Register is a restricted register and promotes the safety and wellbeing of children and young people in statutory or supported out-of-home care.

The NSW Carers Register:

  • is a centralised database of people who are authorised, or who apply for authorisation as carers
  • holds information about carer applicants, and carer and household member histories
  • provides designated carer agencies with a common resource for sharing information
  • requires agencies to certify that prescribed checks and assessments have been conducted.

The NSW Carers Register is administered by the Office of the Children's Guardian

Access to the register

Only designated agencies – accredited by the Office of the Children's Guardian to provide out-of-home care and adoption services – can access the register.
