When you buy a new car, motor dealers will often organise the registration for you. If this isn't the case, you can register the vehicle yourself at a service centre.

If there's no record of you at Roads and Maritime Services, you'll need to set up your customer number or driver licence number first.

Find a service centre

  • the Application for Registration form
  • proof of registration entitlement (not required if the vehicle is being registered by a NSW licensed motor dealer)
  • report from an Authorised Unregistered Vehicle Inspection Station (AUVIS) – Blue Slip
  • weighbridge ticket (only required where Roads and Maritime Services issued Road Vehicle Descriptors (RVDs) or vehicle specification sheet not available)
  • original Compulsory Third Party (CTP) Insurance policy receipt (insurance must be issued without the number plate details and be for 12 months, and must be issued by a NSW insurance provider)
  • a compliance certificate from the Vehicle Safety Compliance Certification Scheme (VSCCS) (if the vehicle has been modified)
  • your concession details (if applicable), and
