NSW Seniors Card program

Apply for a card

As part of the NSW Seniors Card program, you can apply for either a NSW Seniors Card or Senior Savers Card.

Both cards are free and give you discounts and special offers at thousands of businesses across NSW including shops, restaurants and professional services. Many interstate businesses also provide discounts on request.

Seniors Card

You can apply for this card if you're:

* a NSW permanent resident aged 60 or over

* not working at all or averaging 20 hours or less a week of paid work across a 12-month period.

Note: You're eligible for the Gold Opal Card transport concessions and public transport concessions.

Senior Savers Card

You can apply for this card if you're:

* a NSW permanent resident aged 60 or over

* averaging more than 20 hours a week of paid work across a 12-month period.

Note: You're not eligible for Gold Opal Card transport concessions and public transport concessions.

Apply for a Seniors Card or Senior Savers Card

Digital card

You can opt in to get a digital Seniors/Senior Savers Card through the Service NSW app.

The digital card does not replace your current physical card. You can choose which version suits you best, and participating businesses will recognise both when shown.

If you're a new card applicant, you'll still receive a physical card – you can use both your digital and physical card at participating businesses.

For more information, see Digital Seniors Card program.

Using your card

Interstate usage

Each Australian state and territory has their own Seniors Card scheme and some reciprocal arrangements are in place for using your NSW Seniors Card. Businesses in one state will generally recognise cards from another, however, it is best to ask the business if it provides a discount for the NSW Senior Savers Card holders before making a purchase.

To find out more about participating businesses and available discounts in other states, you will need to contact the relevant interstate Seniors Card office:

  • ACT Seniors Card
  • Northern Territory Seniors Card
  • Queensland Seniors Card
  • South Australia Seniors Card
  • Tasmania Seniors Card
  • Victoria Seniors Card
  • Western Australia Seniors Card.

Accessing transport concessions

NSW Government concessions, such as the Gold Opal Card, are reserved for those who are largely or fully retired. You can convert to a Seniors Card and get access to transport concessions as soon as you retire completely or your working hours are reduced to 20 hours or less (on average across a 12 month period).
