Introduction

You can check your demerits points online for free.

The demerit points check shows:

  • the active demerit points applied to your licence within the last 3 years and 4 months
  • your demerit points limit.

You can only see details of your own driver licence.

Driving record

If you need a record of your driving history for an employer or a legal matter you can request a driving record

The driving record includes any offences recorded against your licence. A fee applies to requests for information.

What you need

To check your demerit points online you need a MyServiceNSW Account.

If you have a new account or you have not previously entered them, you'll also need:

  • your NSW Driver Licence details, or
  • the plate number of a vehicle registered in your name.

How to check

  1. Select the 'Check online' button.
  2. Log in or create your MyServiceNSW Account. Enter your NSW Driver Licence or vehicle registration details if your account is new or you have not previously entered them.
  3. Accept the Terms and Conditions.
  4. Review your demerit points record.

If you are unable to check online you can check your demerit points balance at a service centre. Make sure you have your NSW Driver Licence with you.

How demerit points work

When you get your driver or rider licence you start with zero demerit points. You continue to have zero demerit points if you drive safely and do not break any laws.

If you commit an offence that has a demerit points penalty:

  • the demerit points are added to your driving record
  • you will also be charged with a fine.

Your licence can be suspended or your licence renewal can be refused if you reach or exceed your demerit points limit.

If you have reached your demerit points limit and have a notice of suspension you may be able to apply for a 12-month good behaviour period.

If you are a professional driver who is paid to drive for over 20 hours a week you may be eligible to increase your demerit points limit.
