Introduction

If you're a current Justice of the Peace (JP) in NSW, you can apply online for reappointment in the final year of your 5-year term. 

If you're registered for JP Online, you'll receive an email reminder to apply for reappointment when your term is approaching expiry.

What you need

  • a JP Online account
  • your personal and contact details
  • your proof of identity
  • your JP registration number
  • a passed JP Knowledge Test (which is based on the JP Handbook information)
  • a description of the community-based need for your appointment, if you're applying to be a community JP
  • a letter on your employer’s letterhead, if you're applying as part of an employment need
  • evidence that you have legally changed your name, if applicable. 

How to apply

  1. Select the 'Apply online' button.
  2. Log in, or register for your JP Online account. 
  3. Follow the prompts to apply for reappointment.

More information

  • The online application takes about 15 minutes to complete. For security reasons, your session will 'time out' after 60 minutes and you'll lose any data that you entered.
  • Ensure you submit your application before midnight on the expiry date of your current term, otherwise your appointment will automatically lapse.
