This privacy collection notice relates to Business Connect and the Aboriginal Business Advisory Initiative.

Why we are collecting your personal information

Service NSW engages Service Providers to deliver the Business Connect and Aboriginal Business Advisory Initiative programs to support individuals and NSW small businesses.

The programs offer free, tailored business advice through one-on-one sessions with independent business advisors as well as business skills events and online resources.

Service NSW is collecting your personal information to facilitate the delivery of program services.

If you require the Aboriginal Business Advisory Initiative service, you will need to identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.

Types of personal information we collect

We may collect your personal and health information during your registration and as part of your interactions with the programs. This may include your:

  • full name

  • contact information such as email address and mobile number

  • residential address including suburb, postcode, and Local Government Area (LGA)

  • gender

  • age range

  • country of birth

  • requests for interpreter service (and requested language)

  • whether or not you identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander

  • whether you have any accessibility requirements that require additional support.

We may also collect information about your business including your Australian Business Number, number of employees and business contact details.

When you meet with a business advisor, they will take notes of what was discussed and this may include collecting further personal and health information.

How we will use and disclose this information

Service NSW collects your personal and health information to support the delivery of program services. We will share this information with the service provider. We will also use your information for the following purposes:

  • to contact you for the purposes of evaluating the services provided to you

  • to measure and improve the performance of the programs

  • to maintain and use information about you for Service NSW’s internal administrative

    purposes, including for the purpose of interacting with you

  • other directly related purposes.

The service provider will use your information for the following purposes:

  • to manage advice sessions and event bookings

  • to contact you to provide business guidance, information or advice

  • to provide information on future program services

  • other directly related purposes.

We will only share your personal information relating to your Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status with your consent.

Service NSW may also share your personal information with the Department of Customer Service if you opt in to receive relevant business-related or other emails from the Department of Customer Service.

We will not share your personal information with anyone else unless you provide your consent, or we are required or authorised to do so by law.

Whether you are required by law to provide us with this information

Providing us with the requested information is not required by law. However, if you choose not to provide us with the requested information, we may not be able to provide you with program services that you require.
