Service NSW is collecting your personal information to verify your identity before you can complete a transaction.

Types of personal information we collect

To verify your identity we collect personal information from your Proof of Identity documents.

The details collected from your Proof of Identity documents, include but is not limited to, your name, date of birth and document details (such as number, type and effective dates). The information you are required to provide will depend on the documents you choose.

Depending on the transaction you are completing, Proof of Identity documents could include:

  • Australian driver licence
  • Medicare card
  • Australian passport
  • Foreign passport (Australian visa)
  • Australian birth certificate
  • Immi card
  • Australian citizenship certificate
  • Pensioner concession card
  • Health care card
  • Australian certificate registration by descent
  • Aviation Security Identification Card
  • Maritime Security Identification Card
  • Seniors health card
  • Veteran gold card
  • Veteran pensioner concession card
  • Veteran seniors health card.

How we will use and disclose this information

We disclose this information to the document issuer or official record holder for the purposes of verifying the documents against the records of Australian Government and state and territory government agencies. This may include the Document Verification Service, provided by the Department of Home Affairs, or Services Australia for Department of Veteran Affairs card holders.

We retain and use information you provide in your identity documents to detect when someone that isn’t you may attempt to use your proof of identity documents in a transaction and prevent it from occurring. We do this to help protect your identity and your MyServiceNSW Account from misuse.

We maintain and use information collected about you for internal administrative purposes, including for the purpose of our interactions with you and maintaining your MyServiceNSW Account.

Service NSW will not disclose your personal information to anyone else unless you provide your consent, or we are required or authorised to do so by law.

Whether you are required by law to provide us with this information

Providing us with the requested information is not required by law. However, if you choose not to provide us with the requested information, we will not be able to verify your identity and you may not be able to complete your transaction.
