Why we are collecting your personal information

Service NSW and the Department of Customer Service (DCS) are collecting your personal information to process your application for information under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act).

Types of personal information we collect

Service NSW and DCS will only collect personal information that is reasonably necessary to provide you with the required services and assistance. 

How we will use and disclose this information

Service NSW is part of the DCS cluster and DCS manages applications for 
information under the GIPA Act on behalf of Service NSW. Your personal 
information will be used by Service NSW and DCS for the purpose of contacting you and processing your application. This may include DCS sharing and transferring your application to another agency who holds or is likely to hold the information you have requested. 

Otherwise, Service NSW and DCS will not disclose your personal information 
without your consent unless authorised by law. 

Service NSW and DCS are required to collect personal information directly from an individual unless the individual has authorised collection of the information from someone else.

Whether you are required by law to provide us with this information

To process an application, you are required to provide certain information to us as outlined under Part 4 of the GIPA Act, for example: your name and your
postal/email address. If you choose not to provide us with the requested 
information, we may not be able to process your application.
