As we get older, some of the things we used to do around the home can become a bit more difficult.

If you'd like some help with chores so you can continue to live independently in your own home, there's a wide range of support services available.

These services are subsidised by the Australian Government and what you need to pay depends on the services and in some cases, your financial situation.

Services range widely from helping you get out and about and stay social, to home and garden maintenance.

The different services can be accessed through:

  • the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP), or
  • a Home Care Package.

If you only need help in one or 2 areas the CHSP could be for you. If your needs are more complex, a Home Care Package might be more appropriate.

An assessment process will help determine which program best suits you.

When exploring your options, a good place to start is My Aged Care's Help at home page.
