Introduction

The NSW Government is helping kids get active with the Active Kids program.

The Active Kids program provides two $100 vouchers for parents, guardians and carers of school-enrolled children to use towards sport and active recreation costs each year.

Voucher 1 is valid January to December and Voucher 2 is valid July to December.

To use the voucher, find a registered activity provider and present your voucher when you sign up.

Eligibility

If you’re a parent, carer or guardian, the student will be eligible if they are:

  • a NSW resident
  • aged between 4.5 and 18 years
  • enrolled in school (from Kindergarten to Year 12, including those who are home-schooled or enrolled in secondary school education at TAFE NSW)
  • a current Medicare card holder.

You can apply for a voucher for each eligible student.

You can use the voucher for registration, participation or membership costs with an approved Active Kids provider.

What you need

  • a MyServiceNSW account
  • your child's Medicare card details
  • your child's height and weight (optional).

Note: If you have not already verified your MyServiceNSW account, you'll need 2 proof of identity documents in addition to the above.

How to apply

  1. Check the eligibility requirements.
  2. Select the 'Apply online' button.
  3. Log in to your account, or sign up for a MyServiceNSW Account.
  4. Follow the prompts to apply for the voucher.
    Note: If you're applying for a child's second voucher, select 'Apply for Active Kids Voucher 2' on the Services tab.

To use the voucher:

  1. Choose the eligible provider where you'll use the voucher.
  2. At registration or payment time, provide the following information through the provider's preferred process:
  • child's full name
  • child's date of birth
  • Active Kids voucher number.

Active Kids - How To Apply

Speaker: Here’s how to apply for your Active Kids voucher for one or multiple children.

Description: Icons representing football, swimming, tennis and such, appear on the screen.

Speaker: Step 1. Go to service.nsw.gov.au and search for Active Kids.

Speaker: Step 2. Click on ‘Apply for an Active Kids voucher’ and then 'Apply online'.

Description: Screen selects 'Apply for an Active Kids voucher' in list of transactions, moves to Apply for an Active Kids voucher landing page, and scrolls down and clicks the 'Apply online' button.

Speaker: Step 3. Log in to your MyServiceNSW account. 

Description: Screen shows MyServiceNSW Account Log in page, and email and password being entered.

Speaker: Don’t have an account? Sign up instead.

Description: Screen selects 'Create an account instead' and moves to 'Create an account' page.

Speaker: Step 4. Enter your name, contact number and address, and confirm that you are the parent, guardian or carer of the child or children you’re applying for.

Description: Screen moves to 'Parent, Guardian, or Carer details' page and shows name, mobile number and address being typed in. Scrolls down to checkbox being ticked confirming that the applicant is the parent/guardian/carer of the student.

Speaker: Step 5. To check the eligibility of your child, enter their medicare details exactly as shown on the card. Complete this step for all children you’re applying for by selecting add another child. If you wish to apply for a voucher for a child that is on a different medicare card, you will need to submit a new application.

Speaker: Step 6. Next you need to answer some basic questions which will help us measure the effectiveness of the program.

  • Gender
  • Main language spoken at home
  • Is the student of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage?
  • Does the student have a disability?

An address is typed into a box titled Primary residential address.

Speaker: Step 7. Tick the consent box if you agree to being contacted to participate in further research, and then complete application.

Description: Screen shows a checkbox being ticked to consent to being contacted by the Office of Sport and the 'Next' button is clicked.

Speaker: Your vouchers will now be ready for you to use with your chosen sport or active recreation provider.

Description: Screen shows 'Your voucher' section on the 'Apply for an Active Kids voucher' page, and scrolls down to display the voucher number and the 'Apply for another voucher' button.

Speaker: Two Active Kids vouchers are available per eligible child each year until 2023.

and underneath the dot points, UNTIL 2023.

Speaker: Voucher 1 can be applied for from 1 January and is valid the entire calendar year. Voucher 2 can be applied for from 1 July and is valid until 31 December.

Description: The vouchers remain on the screen and the dot points and 'UNTIL 2023' are replaced with the numeral 1 and numeral 2 next to each voucher. From '1 Jan appears' next to voucher 1 and 'From 1 July' appears next to voucher 2. The screen goes to white and the Service NSW logo appears followed by the NSW Government logo.

More information

A voucher can only be used:

  • once (if the fees for your chosen activity are less than $100, the remaining balance is forfeited and can't be used)
  • during the calendar year it's issued
  • for the person named on the voucher
  • for registration or membership fees with an approved Active Kids provider.

A voucher can't be:

  • split between more than one provider or registration (which means if you don't use the full $100 any remaining amount will not be used)
  • used for individual items (like jerseys, socks or boots)
  • used for the same activity within the same term as another Active Kids voucher
  • redeemed for cash.

To use the voucher, give the details to your registered activity provider.
