If you'd like to operate a bus tour company or business, you'll need to apply for an operator accreditation for buses. You can download the application form, and lodge it with your supporting documents, at your nearest service centre.


You must:

  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or hold a visa allowing you to work in Australia
  • have successfully completed a Bus Operator Accreditation Training Course
  • have local council approval for the nominated bus depot address
  • be a person or corporation deemed fit and proper, and able to meet the appropriate requirements in respect of:

    • financial viability
    • safety of drivers, passengers and the public
    • vehicle maintenance.

What you need

  • your proof of identity
  • references from 2 individuals stating that you are of good character (referees must have known you for at least two years and can be any of those listed in section 2.2.2 of the Bus Operator Accreditation Package)
  • evidence that you've successfully completed an approved Bus Operator Training Course
  • National Police Certificate issued no more than 3 months prior to this application
  • a financial statement from a qualified accountant (on official letterhead)
  • an additional statement from the qualified accountant as to the solvency and general financial standing of the corporation (if applicable)
  • details of any civil or criminal offences within the last 5 years (can be included in the application form)
  • a signed statement declaring any bankruptcy, criminal or civil convictions, or charges pending, that have occurred within the last 5 years (if applicable)
  • evidence of local council approval for the nominated bus depot address
  • the PDF form – 'Application for an Operator Accreditation – Bus'.

How to apply

  1. Select the 'Download PDF form' button.
  2. Complete and print the form.
  3. Sign the declaration.
  4. Attach all supporting and identity documents.
  5. Visit a service centre and submit your application in person.

More information

When providing your identification documents you must provide at least one primary document (with a value of 70 points) and at least one secondary document (with a value of 30 points). The secondary identification document must be a certified copy of your driver licence.
