The Australian Death Notification Service (ADNS) is a free service that lets you advise multiple organisations that someone has died using a single online notification.
Anyone can use the service to notify an organisation about a death. However, the quickest way to close or transfer accounts is to have an official role in the estate.
To use this service, you will need to provide the details of the person who died, including their:
- name
- date of death
- state or territory where they died
- last known residential address.
The ADNS will validate the details against the Australian Death Check (ADC), which holds all the death registration data across Australia.
Once the details are validated, you can choose which organisations and services to inform. View a list participating organisations.
It also helps if you know the account and membership numbers of the person who has passed away. If you do not have these, you can still send a notification to relevant organisations.
Note: A death certificate needs to have been issued by the relevant state or territory Registry of Births, Deaths & Marriages in order to progress the notification.
