The Vehicle Emissions Star Ratings (VESR) website tool helps you make an informed decision on the environmental impact and running costs of a vehicle, if you're buying a new or used car.

The tool's 6-star rating enables you to compare the tailpipe greenhouse gas emissions of cars, utes and vans you may be interested in – the more stars, the lower the vehicle's carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

You can compare by entering the make and model of the vehicle into the tool, or by engine or body type.

The tool is also customisable, and allows you to enter the current price you pay for fuel or electricity and the distance you travel annually, so you can consider actual costs to you, rather than just an average figure.

The VESR website also provides information on how to minimise running costs, the difference between electric, hybrid and internal combustion engines, and how driving style and maintenance can help reduce emissions.
