The NSW Government has reformed the compulsory third party (CTP) insurance scheme to better support people injured on our roads and to reduce the costs of CTP Green Slips for vehicle owners.

You may be able to claim a CTP Green Slip refund for insurance policies bought or renewed before 1 December 2017.

Albury, Tweed Heads, Murwillumbah, Blacktown, Castle Hill and Parramatta regions will get notification of their refunds in February so that we can test our systems. If you've been invited to claim your refund early, log in or create a MyServiceNSW Account to get started.

Refund claims will be available more widely from March 2018.

You may be entitled to a refund if, at midnight 30 November 2017, you were the registered owner of a vehicle that had a paid, active CTP insurance policy.

All classes of commercial and private vehicles (except motorcycles) are included.

If you own a taxi or business with 50 vehicles or fewer per insurer, you'll be mailed a cheque between January and February 2018. If you insure more than 50 vehicles with the same insurer, your refund will be handled directly by that insurer.

Refund claims will be available more widely from March 2018, but areas within the following postcodes may be able to claim their refunds earlier:

  • 2147
  • 2640
  • 2641
  • 2642
  • 2659
  • 2658
  • 2644
  • 2646
  • 2647
  • 2660
  • 2485
  • 2486
  • 2487
  • 2484

The easiest way to prepare to get your refund is by signing up for a MyServiceNSW Account linked to Roads and Maritime Services – you only need your banking details to claim.

To create a linked account, you need an email address, plus linking details like your NSW Driver Licence or NSW Photo Card.

If you've registered your private vehicle within any of the postcodes listed under 'Who's eligible?', you may be invited to claim your refund early.

  • Refund amounts will be calculated on a pro rata basis. This means that the amount you're refunded will depend on when you bought your Green Slip in the 12 months before the new scheme started on 1 December 2017.
  • Please allow 10 working days for the refund to be credited to your account.
  • More information about how to claim your refund will be available over the next couple of months.
