Introduction
Until October 2025, Service NSW is piloting an upgraded NSW Digital Photo Card at the Auburn, Blacktown and Parramatta Service NSW Centres.
The upgraded NSW Digital Photo Card is a verifiable credential that reduces the risk of identity theft by using a face verification to ensure only you can use it.
Verifiable credentials are enhanced digital credentials that align to a global standard that allows licences and ID documents to be verified and accepted more widely. Verifiable credentials can support selective disclosure, which reduces oversharing of sensitive information and provides greater protection of your privacy and personal information.
Eligibility
You can upgrade your NSW Digital Photo Card if you took part in the NSW Digital Photo Card trial and you have:
- a MyServiceNSW Account
- the latest version of the Service NSW app downloaded on an iPhone or Android device
- a valid NSW Digital Photo Card within the NSW Digital Wallet.
What you need
To complete the upgrade, we will need to verify your identity and face.
To do this you will need:
- a physical NSW Photo Card or NSW Driver Licence, plus 2 other accepted identity documents
- a device with a front camera to complete a face verification.
How to participate in the pilot
Step 1: Upgrade your NSW Digital Photo Card in the Service NSW app.
When you open the Service NSW app, follow the steps to upgrade your NSW Digital Photo Card.
You will need to enter details from your physical NSW Photo Card, as well as details from 2 other identity documents.
We will then verify your face is the same as the one that’s shown on your NSW Photo Card.
An upgraded NSW Digital Photo Card will be added to your digital wallet in your Service NSW app.
Step 2: Use the upgraded NSW Digital Photo Card at a Service NSW Centre.
During the trial you can use the upgraded Digital Photo Card at the following service centres:
