The minimum wages and conditions that employees are entitled to are set out in awards (also known as modern awards). As an employer, you need to make sure that you're providing these wages and conditions for all your employees – full-time, part-time and casual.

Awards don’t apply when a business has an enterprise agreement or other registered agreement, and the employee is covered by it.

There are 122 industry and occupation awards, and they cover most people working in Australia. A few jobs and industries however, are not covered, and employees are considered to be award and agreement free.

You can find information on transport contract determinations and local government awards on the NSW Industrial Relations website.

You can find all information relating to awards at the Fair Work Ombudsman website.
