Parents in New South Wales can access 600 hours of affordable preschool education for their children through the Start Strong program.

The NSW government has introduced reforms for preschools through reduced fees.

  • Eligible children need to be enrolled with a participating preschool provider or Long Day Care service.
  • Before enrolling your child, confirm with the provider if they are funded by the Stay Strong program.

  • children aged between 4 and 5 years old
  • children aged 3 years old from Aboriginal and/or low income families.

Long day care (LDC) services that are listed on the Australian Government's Child Care Management System (CCMS) are eligible to receive Start Strong LDC funding.

To be considered eligible under Start Strong LDC, children must be:

  • listed on CCMS
  • at least four years old on, or before, 30 June 2018
  • attending an early childhood education program
  • not yet in compulsory schooling.

  • Enrolment fees vary between preschool providers who set their own fee levels.
  • Preschools aren't required to reduce fees if they don't receive funding under Start Strong.

For enrolments of less than 600 hours, refer to the Start Strong guidelines as fee reductions could still apply.
