About the scheme

Under the 10/50 Vegetation Clearing Scheme, NSW residents who live near bushland can better prepare their homes for potential bushfires.

If you live in a designated area you are able to clear certain vegetation near your home without having to get approval from the local council or land services office

You are only permitted to clear your own land.

The vegetation includes:

  • trees on your property within 10 metres of your home
  • underlying vegetation such as shrubs (not trees) on your property within 50 metres of your home.

Check if you live in a designated area

Plan ahead

Use the NSW Rural Fire Service online tool to see if you live in a designated area.

On the day of clearing

Check the online tool on the day you are clearing to re-confirm your eligibility to clear vegetation under the 10/50 Scheme.

Note: The entitlement areas and rules change. You must follow the eligibility and/or rules in place at the time you clear any vegetation.
