About the register

The NSW Carers Register is a restricted register and promotes the safety and wellbeing of children and young people in statutory or supported out-of-home care. It is administered by the Office of the Children's Guardian.

The NSW Carers Register:

  • is a centralised database of people who are authorised, or who apply for authorisation as carers
  • holds information about carer applicants, and carer and household member histories
  • provides designated carer agencies with a common resource for sharing information
  • requires agencies to certify that prescribed checks and assessments have been conducted.

Note: Only designated agencies – accredited by the Office of the Children's Guardian to provide out-of-home care and adoption services – can access the register.

How to access

Designated agencies can access the NSW Carers Register  online.
