If you're an apprentice or trainee registered with Training Services NSW and in an active apprenticeship or traineeship, you may be able to get cheaper public transport.

For cheaper fares on the Opal transport network you'll need need two things: 

  • Transport Concession Entitlement Card – proves you can travel on concession fares 
  • concession Opal card – lets you pay concession fares on trains, buses, ferries and light rail. 

Transport Concession Entitlement Card

Your Transport Concession Entitlement Card is proof of your entitlement, and you need to carry it with you whenever you're travelling.

It's free and valid for up to 15 months. You must renew it by 31 March each year.

To apply for the card you must be registered with Training Services NSW as an apprentice or trainee.

How to apply

To apply for your apprentice or trainee Transport Concession Entitlement Card refer to the Transport for NSW website.

Renew or replace your card

You can renew online up to 30 days before your card expires. You must still meet the eligibility rules. 

If your card is lost or stolen, you can order a replacement online. A replacement fee may apply.

Until your renewal or replacement card arrives, you must use an adult Opal card or adult ticket.

If your personal or contact details change, you can update the details on your card online.

Concession Opal card

The concession Opal card gives you cheaper fares on the Opal network (trains, buses, ferries, light rail). 

You must carry your Transport Concession Entitlement Card every time you travel on your concession Opal card.

Regional travel

Your Transport Concession Entitlement Card entitles you to concession fares on regular local bus services outside the Opal network. Check with Local Transport Operators to find out if you're entitled to concession fares on privately operated local bus services.

Eligible apprentices and trainees with a Transport Concession Entitlement Card are entitled to concession fares on all NSW TrainLink Regional services. Note concession fares are not available for sleeping berths on NSW TrainLink Regional services.

Have your Transport Concession Entitlement Card with you when you book for NSW TrainLink Regional services.
