Introduction

If your property is damaged by subsidence as a result of coalmining, you can claim compensation through Subsidence Advisory NSW (SANSW).

The types of damage that can occur include:

  • cracks
  • subsidence holes (potholes)
  • strains, which can cause cracks in internal walls, brickwork to break apart, and pipes and paving to buckle
  • tilts, which can cause doors and windows to jam.

Eligibility

To lodge a claim, you must be the property owner or an authorised representative of the property owner. 

What you need

  • a MyServiceNSW Account – you can create one when you start your claim
  • your details and the details of all property owners, including relevant proof of authority
  • the address of the property, including lot and DP number (if available)
  • a detailed description of the damage, including photos (if available)
  • the date you first became aware of the damage.

How to claim

  1. Select the ‘Claim online’ button.
  2. Log in, or create a MyServiceNSW Account.
  3. Select ‘Make New Claim’.
  4. Accept the Terms and Conditions, then select ‘Next’.
  5. Follow the prompts to complete your application, and upload any documents (including photos of the damage) to support your claim.

Privacy

To claim compensation for mine subsidence damage with Subsidence Advisory NSW, you’ll need to create or log in with a MyServiceNSW Account.

By logging in you consent to sharing your name and email address in your MyServiceNSW Account with Subsidence Advisory NSW, a division of the Department of Customer Service.

The Subsidence Advisory NSW Privacy Policy explains how your personal information will be handled once it is shared by Service NSW.

More information

  • Claims must be made within 12 months of becoming aware that the damage was caused by subsidence. 
  • You can log in to the SANSW Portal to track and manage your claim.
  • If you have a subsidence emergency at your property or you’ve found a subsidence hole, report it to the Subsidence Advisory NSW 24-hour hotline on 1800 248 083. If there is an immediate threat to life or property, call Triple Zero (000).
