As a licensed builder or swimming pool builder you must undertake continuing professional development (CPD) each year to renew your licence or certificate.
Earning points
In the 12-months before your renewal you need to earn a minimum of 12 CPD points. If you earn more than 12 points you can carry up to 11 points into the next year.
Eligible activities
You can choose CPD activities and training that suits you and your business. The flexibility of the points system supports the needs of the industry and helps people in regional areas and people with disability meet their CPD requirements.
In addition to face-to-face training courses you may be able to earn points from on-the-job learning, attending conferences and seminars, watching training videos and online learning.
Find CPD activities
To find CPD activities contact an industry association or an organisation that delivers building industry training.
For a list of courses and registered training organisations (RTOs) that deliver training for the building profession visit the Australian Government Your Career website.
Cost of CPD activities
The cost of your CPD will depend on the activities you choose.
Record keeping
The CPD points system allows you to record and track your learning. Make sure you retain:
- a diary record of your participation
Note: The training provider should supply you with a record of attendance document. - evidence such as a certificate, academic record, or a receipt if you've bought or hired learning resources.
Keep the records for 3 licence renewal periods in case you're audited by Building Commission NSW.
