Introduction

There are notification rules that apply to asbestos removalists licensed in NSW and interstate asbestos removalists operating in NSW.

If you plan to carry out asbestos removal in NSW, you must notify SafeWork NSW 5 calendar days before starting the work.

If explosives are used in demolition, then you must give 21 calendar days notice.

You can lodge your notification online.

Where asbestos must be removed immediately, phone SafeWork NSW on 13 10 50.

Note: A licensed asbestos professional must be used to remove friable asbestos and when there is more than 10sqm of non-friable (bonded) asbestos. However due to the risks associated with disturbing asbestos, SafeWork NSW recommends a licensed asbestos professional is used to remove any amount of non-friable asbestos.
