Introduction

The NSW Government is helping to ease cost-of-living pressures by providing customers with a discount on the registration of their eligible privately registered light vehicle of:

  • up to $100 on privately registered light motor vehicles, and
  • up to $80 on privately registered motorcycles.

The discount:

  • will apply to car registrations with an effective renewal date from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027
  • is a one-off reduction to the annual motor vehicle tax.

Digital Certificate of Registration

You can access your digital Certificate of Registration in your MyServiceNSW Account if you have opted in to digital vehicle registration. Your certificate is under the registration details for eligible vehicles.

Eligibility

The discount is available for motor vehicles and motorcycles registered for private use.

The discount is not available on:

How it works

If your vehicle is eligible you do not have to do anything to receive the discount.

The discount will automatically be applied to vehicle registration fees when:

  • you receive your notification that your light vehicle or motorcycle is due for registration, or
  • when a new light vehicle or motorcycle registration is established.

The one-off discount on annual registration is for:

  • $100 on privately registered light motor vehicles, and
  • $80 on privately registered motorcycles.

If you register every 6 months

If you pay your registration for a short-term period (for example 6 months), a pro-rata rate will be deducted from the motor vehicle tax for each 6-month period of:

  • $50 on privately registered light motor vehicles, and
  • $40 on privately registered motorcycles.
