Introduction
When your design practitioner registration is nearing its expiry date you'll receive a renewal notice. You can then renew your registration online before the due date.
If your registration has expired
You cannot make declarations or lodge regulated designs as a design practitioner in NSW if your registration has expired.
- Visit the Building Commission NSW website for information on how to restore or replace a licence or registration if:
- you did not renew on time and it is less than 3 months after the expiry date
- you need to replace your licence or certificate has been damaged, lost or stolen.
- If your registration expired more than 3 months ago, you need to reapply for registration.
Change of name or contact details
If you have changed your name or contact details do not start your application until you complete the Building Commission NSW form Change of Details – PDF.

Eligibility
To be eligible to renew your design practitioner registration, you need to:
- be aged 18 or over
- complete the approved education and training requirements for continuing professional development (CPD) and meet the requirements to maintain your registration
- meet the requirements to work on regulated buildings
- hold the required level of insurance cover.

To renew your design practitioner registration you need:
- your registration number
- your renewal number (as shown on your renewal notice)
- evidence of your continuing professional development
- your fee payment.
How to renew
- Gather the required documents including evidence of your continuing professional development.
- Select the ‘Renew online’ button.
- Log in to your MyServiceNSW Account.
- Follow the prompts to renew your registration.
