From 1 April 2026, Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) registered charities can use their ACNC registration to fundraise in NSW and do not need to apply for or renew a NSW charitable fundraising authority. 

Introduction

The maximum term of an authority to fundraise is 5 years. You can apply to renew your authority before it expires, or up to 3 months after the expiry date.

Eligibility

You must be the holder of a charitable fundraising authority or be authorised by the authority holder.

What you need

You must have a charitable fundraising authority that has not expired or expired less than 3 months ago.

To renew the authority you need:

  • your charitable fundraising authority number (CFN) which must match the registered number.
  • details of the:
    • authority holder
    • primary contact
    • auditor
    • trader (if applicable)
    • fundraising appeal.

How to renew

  • Select the 'Renew online' button.
  • Follow the prompts to renew the charitable fundraising authority.

If you cannot renew online:

  1. Download Charitable fundraising authority – renewal – PDF.
  2. Complete the form.
  3. Sign the declaration.
  4. Attach your supporting documents.
  5. Email your information to the address on the form.

To renew a charitable fundraising authority with NSW Fair Trading, you need to create or log in with a MyServiceNSW Account.

By logging in you consent to sharing your name and email address in your MyServiceNSW Account with NSW Fair Trading, a division of the Department of Customer Service.
