Registration number can appear in different ways depending on the year your Birth Certificate was issued. You will need to enter 7 digits for the registration number so you may need to change the way your number is entered into the form. Where registration number appears in a format like:

  • 123456/YYYY add a leading zero '0' to enter the 7 digit number ie. 0123456
  • 1234567X/YYYY remove the letter and enter the 7 digit number ie. 1234567
  • 1/234/56/X use the numbers before and after the first slash '/' to make up the 7 digit number. Add 1 zero '0' to the first number group and 2 zeros to the second number group ie. 0100234

Some Western Australia Birth Certificates will show a registration number and district name. District name appears under 'District Name' or 'Name of the town in the district where the birth was registered'. You'll need to use the WA Registration District Code table below to find the 2 digit code for the district name on your Birth Certificate.  For example, if your registration number and district name was 456/63 in District of Perth you would ignore the /63 and add 2 zeros '0' to 456 to make the registration number into 5 digits and then add the 2 digit district code for Perth 01 to the front to make up the 7 digit number ie. 0100456.

You'll need to use the WA Registration District Code table below to find the 2 digit code for the district name on your Marriage Certificate.  For example, if your registration number and district name was 456/63 in District of Perth you would ignore the /63 and add 2 zeros '0' to 456 to make the registration number into 5 digits and then add the 2 digit district code for Perth 01 to the front to make up the 7 digit number ie. 0100456.
