Here are examples of the types of document you may be asked for.

Australian driver licence

Note: You need to provide both your card number and licence number.

You'll need to enter details from your passport to verify an Australian visa:

  • Given name(s)
  • Family name
  • Date of birth
  • Passport number.

  • Certificate number is shown on certificates issued from 13 October 2014. It's on the back of the certificate under the barcode at the bottom.
  • If you were born between 1952 and 1974, your certificate may show a district number. You can enter this in the registration number field.

  • Certificate number is shown on certificates issued from 1 May 2002. It's near the registry seal.

  • Birth certificates issued from 1 January 1941 can be used to verify your identity online.
  • Certificate number is shown on certificates issued from 27 June 2016. It's a 10-digit number near the registry seal.

  • Certificate number is shown on certificates issued from 1 November 1999. It's near the registry seal.

Tasmania

  • Birth certificates can be used to verify your identity online where the birth was registered:
    • from 1 January 1970
    • before 1 January 1970 and the certificate has been issued from 1 January 2000.
  • Certificate number is shown on certificates issued from 1 September 2016. It's an 11-digit number near the registrar’s name.

Victoria

  • Birth certificates issued from 1 January 1929 can be used to verify your identity online.
  • Certificate number is shown on certificates issued from 18 February 2019. It's on the back of the certificate under the bottom right barcode.

Western Australia

Certificate number is shown on certificates issued from 29 March 2017. It's an 11-digit number under the registration number.

Registration number is a 7-digit number. You do not need to include any letters. If you do not have 7 numbers, add a zero ‘0’ at the front – for example, 123456/ becomes 0123456/.

For certificates issued before 26 November 2001, it may include a district number or district name. 

  • If your certificate has a district number 1/234/56/X, enter 0100234 as the registration number:
    • '1' is the district number and '234' is the registration number.
    • to make up the 7-digit number, add a zero '0' in front of the number before the first slash '/', then and add 2 zeros in front of the number before the second slash '/'.
  • If your certificate has a district number and a district name, use the Western Australian Registration District Codes table for a list of district numbers. For example, with ‘456/63 in District of Perth’ you would enter 0100456 as the registration number:
    • add 2 zeros ‘0’ in front of the number before the first slash '/'
    • add the 2-digit district code for Perth (01) to the front to make up the 7-digit number.
