Apply to be a registered land or mining surveyor

Introduction

To become a registered surveyor in NSW you need to have gained a recognised qualification or equivalent and a Certificate of Competency. You can then apply for registration online.

Visit the Board of Surveying and Spatial Information (BOSSI) website to learn about the pathways to registration for a:

• land surveyor
• mining surveyor.

Eligibility

To apply you must be either:

• a candidate surveyor in NSW and hold a Certificate of Competency, or
• registered in another Australian state/territory or New Zealand (mutual recognition).

What you need

• a MyServiceNSW Account (you can create one when you start your application) or your OneGov account
• copies of the following documents that are certified, in English, and in PDF format (maximum file size 4MB):
  • Certificate of Competency
  • tertiary education degree
  • proof of identity such as driver licence, passport, birth certificate
  • 2 character references, dated within the last 24 months
  • completed Notice of practical experience form – PDF (optional)
• a passport quality photo in JPG format
• a credit or debit card for the registration fee
• mutual recognition applicants also need: 
  • Letter of Accreditation issued by the interstate or New Zealand surveying board, dated within the last 12 months
  • statutory declaration verifying that the information on the forms is true and correct.

How to apply

1. Gather the required documents.
2. Select the 'Apply online' button.
3. Select 'Next' on the application screen.
4. Log in, or create your MyServiceNSW Account, or log in using your OneGov credentials.
5. Follow the prompts to apply to be a registered surveyor.

Note: To apply via mutual recognition, in the 'Mutual Recognition or Certificate of Competency' screen, select 'No' to the first question to get the mutual recognition option.
