Introduction

NSW Maritime has a network of Boatcode Agents throughout NSW to validate and affix Hull Identification Numbers (HIN) on vessels. You can apply for Boatcode Agency Accreditation at a service centre or by mail, or phone 13 12 56 for details. The process of selection is not competitive, rather agents are allocated where they are needed and by meeting the established criteria.

What you'll need

  • Completed Application for Boatcode (HIN) Agency Accreditation
  • Application for Boatcode (HIN) Examiner Accreditation
  • Your proof of identity
  • Copy of ACN Certificate (or ABN Certificate if Sole Trader)
  • Signed copy of Boatcode Agency Agreement
  • Copy of trade qualifications

  1. Phone 13 12 56 for details on how to apply and to obtain copies of relevant applications and documentation, and then:
  • Visit a service centre and submit the application in person, or
  • Mail the completed application/s and supporting documentation to Maritime Product Services, Locked Bag 5100, Camperdown NSW 1450

Who's eligible?

To apply to become a Boatcode Agency:   

  • The organisation must be associated with the Marine Industry and have an ACN (or ABN if Sole Trader)
  • The organisation must be open to the general public a minimum of 5½ days per week
  • The organisation must have at least one staff member who is an Accredited Boatcode Examiner
  • The organisation must have the necessary tools and equipment for affixing a HIN and a specified range of materials eg: punches, engravers, etc
  • The organisation must keep HIN certificates and HIN plates in a secure (lockable) storage device at all times
  • The proprietor must provide a copy of their organisation's Second Hand Dealers Licence or a completed ‘Application for National Criminal History Record Check’ consenting to Roads and Maritime Services conducting a criminal record check
  • The proprietor must be prepared to nominate an Examiner to travel within their local area to undertake Boatcode activities
  • The premises must provide ample off-street parking and have an area that is suitable to accommodate a boat and trailer
  • The premises must have a separate work area to conduct administrative duties
