Apply for a First Lap learn to swim voucher

Introduction

From 1 July 2023, parents, guardians and carers of children aged 3 to 6 years who are not enrolled in school, can apply for a $50 voucher towards the cost of swimming lessons. 

The voucher is valid until 30 June 2024.

You can use the voucher:

• for a program of at least 5 structured and supervised swimming lessons, which are either intensive (daily) or regular weekly lessons 
• at any participating business that is an approved First Lap provider
• before the expiry date.

You can apply for a voucher for each eligible child. 

Eligibility

Your child must be:

• a resident of NSW
• aged between 3 and 6 years and not enrolled in school
• listed on a valid Australian Medicare card.

Voucher eligibility 

• Each voucher can only be used:
  • once (if the program is less than $50, the remaining balance is given up and cannot be refunded or used with another provider)
  • with an approved First Lap provider
  • for a program of at least 5 structured and supervised swimming lessons, which are either intensive (daily) or regular weekly lessons 
  • on or before the expiry date.
• Vouchers cannot be used:
  • for programs that take place in:
    • moving bodies of water 
    • water with potential underwater hazards 
    • water with low visibility
  • to buy individual items (such as swimming costumes, goggles and kickboards)
  • for online swimming lessons 
  • to pay for pool entrance/membership costs for the child, parent, guardian or carer
  • to redeem cash.

What you need

• a MyServiceNSW Account – you can create one when you start your application
• one proof of identity document for the parent, carer or guardian
• your child's Medicare card details.

How to apply

1. Check the eligibility requirements.
2. Gather the required documents.
3. Select the 'Apply online' button.
4. Log in, or create your MyServiceNSW Account.
5. Follow the prompts to apply for the voucher. 

If successful, you'll:

• find the voucher under the ‘Vouchers’ section of the Service NSW app within an hour
• receive an email from Service NSW with the voucher available to download and print.

How to use the vouchers

1. Choose a participating swimming provider where you'll use the voucher.
2. Log in to the Service NSW app on your mobile device.
3. Select ‘Vouchers’.
4. Select the First Lap voucher.
5. Present the voucher QR code for the business to scan at payment.
6. Your device will show the voucher as being used.

If you do not have a mobile device, you can provide the printed voucher or voucher code instead. 

Both printed and digital options can be scanned by participating providers.
