Introduction

You can apply for a replacement driving instructor licence if:

  • you're downgrading your licence
  • you've changed your name or appearance, or
  • the licence has been lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed.

A non-refundable fee is payable unless you're replacing your licence because:

  • you've changed your name, or
  • Transport for NSW have requested you to downgrade your licence.

You can submit your replacement application online or at a Service NSW centre.

Returning your original licence

You need to return your original driving instructor licence to Transport for NSW, unless the card has been lost or stolen. The instructions for returning your licence will be in the letter accompanying your new driving instructor licence.

Eligibility

You must hold:

  • a current NSW driving instructor licence
  • a current full (unrestricted) driver licence
    Note: If you have changed your name the licence must be in your new name.

  1. Check the eligibility requirements.
  2. Select the 'Apply online' button.
    Note: You cannot save and resume your replacement application once you start.
  3. Follow the prompts to submit your application.

Getting a reference number

You'll receive a confirmation message with a reference number and a copy of your application by email. If you do not receive the email within 30 minutes call (02) 8848 8700 and quote your reference number.

What happens next

If your application is successful a replacement driving instructor licence will be posted to you.

If you have not heard from Transport for NSW after 10 working days, call (02) 8848 8700.

  1. Check the eligibility requirements.
  2. Download and complete a: 
    1. Replacement Application – PDF and
    2. Change of Records – PDF.
      Note: Do not sign the forms – your signature must be witnessed at the service centre.
  3. Lodge your applications a service centre.
