Introduction

If you only use your vehicle for part of the year, for example during the harvesting period, you can apply for a seasonal registration.

Seasonal registration means you nominate how many months you use the vehicle and you only pay rego for those months.

What you need

  • your NSW Driver Licence or NSW Photo Card, or alternative proof of identity
  • proof of a previous registration, or proof of registration entitlement such as a bill of sale receipt
  • the appropriate inspection report
  • compulsory third party (CTP) insurance (green slip) covering the period of seasonal registration
  • your payment
  • the PDF form – 'Application for Registration'.

Vehicle inspection reports

If your vehicle is 4.5 tonnes or less you'll need:

  • a blue slip – safety and identity check from an Authorised Unregistered Vehicle Inspection Station (AUVIS) if:
    • the seasonal registration expired more than 12 months ago, and the vehicle's details have changed, or
    • the vehicle has never been registered.
  • a pink slip – safety inspection report from an Authorised Inspection Scheme (AIS) station if:
    • your seasonal registration expired more than 12 months ago and the vehicle's details have not changed, or
    • you're changing from general to seasonal registration.

If your vehicle is more than 4.5 tonnes you'll need:

  • a pink slip and a brown slip – identity, design and safety check from a Heavy Vehicle Authorised Inspection Scheme (HVAIS) station if:
    • the seasonal registration expired more than 12 months ago, and the vehicle's details have changed, or
    • the vehicle has never been registered.
  • pink slip – safety inspection from a HVAIS, if:
    • your seasonal registration expired more than 12 months ago and the vehicle's details have not changed, or
    • you're changing from general to seasonal registration.
