Introduction

You can reserve a proposed name for:

  • a new association
  • changing the name of your existing association
  • amalgamation of 2 or more associations
  • registration of a registrable corporation as an incorporated association. 

Reserving a proposed name is optional.

Before you start your application, check whether the name you have chosen has already been registered

Eligibility

A person who is authorised by the association committee can apply to reserve a name.

What you need

  • 3 proposed names for your association in order of preference
  • the PDF form – 'Application for reservation of name (Form A1)'.

How to apply

  1. Check the eligibility requirements.
  2. Select the 'Download PDF form' button.
  3. Complete the form and submit it with your payment either:
    1. at a Service NSW Centre, or
    2. by mail or email using the details on the form.

More information

  • If approved, the name will be reserved for 3 months and expire if the association does not incorporate in that time.
  • The period of 3 months for name reservation cannot be extended.
  • It’s your responsibility to check whether a name is restricted in a way that may prevent the use of it, such as it closely resembles an existing incorporated association name, or is the same as a registered business or company name.
