Once an Owner-Builder Permit has been granted, there is no option for cancellation unless a clear error was made at the time of granting, and the permit should not have been issued.
Changing your mind, or altering plans, or contracting a licensed builder to carry out the work, are not considered errors, and the permit cannot be cancelled.
What you'll need
To re-apply for a permit at a different address within 5 years of your original Owner-Builder Permit's issue, you'll need to:
- satisfy the Director-General that 'special circumstances exist' (section 31(3) of the Home Building Act 1989)
- apply for an Owner-Builder Permit
