Introduction
If your business sells tobacco products or non-tobacco smoking products in NSW, your premises must be licensed. Before your current tobacco licence expires you must apply to have your licence renewed.
If you own the business as an individual, you can apply to renew your licence for a retail and/or wholesale licence on this page. The licence for each individual premises will need to be renewed.
You will receive multiple renewal notices and reminders by email and phone before your licence's expiry date, including at:
- 45 days
- 30 days
- 15 days.
Renewal notices and reminders for licences registered under the same business entity and expiring in the same calendar month will be sent out together. This will not affect the renewal date of the licence, which will be the day after the previous licence expired.

All renewed tobacco licences are valid for 12 months from the date of expiry.
Renewal grace period
You should renew your licence before it expires. If you miss that date in error, you can apply to restore your licence for up to 30 days after it expires. This 30‑day period is called a grace period. If you apply to restore your licence during this time, your application may still be accepted, but you will need to pay a higher renewal fee.
Applications to renew or restore a licence 31 days or more after the expiry date cannot be accepted. If your business wants to continue to sell tobacco products and non-tobacco smoking products beyond the grace period, a new licence application must be submitted and will undergo a full assessment.
Eligibility
You must be:
- aged 18 or over
- listed as an applicant, relevant or authorised person on the licence prior to applying to renew your licence, and
- hold a current Australian Business Number (ABN)
Your current tobacco licence must be active. You cannot renew a licence that is expired, surrendered, revoked or cancelled. You may apply to restore a licence within the 30 day grace period following licence expiry.
What you need
To complete your renewal application, you will need:
- a MyServiceNSW Account
- you can log in to your existing account or create one when you start the online renewal process
- for new accounts you will need details from 2 identity documents (such as Australian driver licence, Medicare card, passport)
- your renewal number – you can find this on the renewal notice we sent to your nominated email address
- to disclose, and provide details of, any previous convictions or findings of guilt for offences related to tobacco products, non-tobacco smoking products or vaping goods. This applies whether the offence(s) happened in NSW or anywhere else.
- to disclose, and provide details, if the licence holder has been subject to a closure order
- a way to pay your licence renewal fee.
Update your details
If you need to update your contact or business details, or change any other information relating to your licence, you will need to do this before renewing your licence.

Renewal fee
- A fee of $1,100 applies to renew your tobacco licence for 12 months before it expires.
- If you do not renew your licence before it expires, you can apply to restore the licence up to 30 days after the licence has expired. You will need to pay a higher renewal fee of $1280 per licence application.
Note: the maximum amount that can be charged on a credit card is $22,000.
Payment options
Payment by credit card applies for all licensing application fees up to $22,000 per online transaction.
Any payment required over $22,000 in a single transaction must be made via electronic funds transfer (EFT) to the Ministry of Health. Specific instructions will be sent via email once the online form is submitted.

- Read and confirm the declaration.
More information
You must provide complete and truthful answers to all questions in this renewal application. Under the Public Health (Tobacco) Act 2008, giving false or misleading information could impact your ability to hold a tobacco licence.
