Introduction
If your business grows more than 100 birds at the same time, you must hold a licence with the NSW Food Authority.
You can apply and pay for a licence online.
To apply for more than 5 or more premises, you need to submit a printed application form.
Note: You must not start business operations until you have your licence.
What you need
- ABN/ACN
- ASIC company statement showing name/s of the director/s (if applicable)
- confirmation of your registered business name (if applicable)
- the certificate of incorporation (if applicable)
- details of the business activities and location
- your payment
Note: The licence fee is based on the number of premises.
If your business grows fewer than 1,000 birds at any time you’re entitled to a fee waiver.
How to apply
- Gather the required documents.
- Select the 'Apply online' button.
- Complete the online application form.
- Submit your application and payment.
You can save and continue your application later, if needed.
If you're unable to apply online, or if you want to apply for 5 or more premises:
- Download and complete the Application for a licence for a meat business to produce poultry – PDF.
- Gather the required documents.
- Submit your application with payment to the details on the form.
The NSW Food Authority will review your application within 10 working days.

- You cannot transfer a licence.
