Introduction
If your business produces, processes, grades or stores eggs or egg-related products, you must hold a licence with the NSW Food Authority.
You can apply and pay for a licence online.
To apply for more than 5 or more premises, you need to submit a printed application form.
Note: You must not start business operations until you have your licence.
What you need
- ABN/ACN
- ASIC company statement showing the director names (if applicable)
- confirmation of your registered business name (if applicable)
- certificate of incorporation (if applicable)
- details of the business activities, location and food handlers
- contractor details (if applicable)
- your payment
Note: The licence fee is based on the number of food handlers and premises.
If your business produces less than 100 dozen eggs a week you’re entitled to a fee waiver.
How to apply
- Gather the required documents.
- Select the 'Apply online' button.
- Complete the online application form.
- Submit your application and payment.
You can save and continue your application later, if needed.
If you're unable to apply online, or if you want to apply for 5 or more premises:
- Download and complete the Application for a licence to produce, process, grade, store eggs and egg-related products – PDF.
- Gather the required documents.
- Submit your application with payment by post or email, to the details on the form.
The NSW Food Authority will review your application within 10 working days.
An assessment will be carried out before a licence is approved.

- You cannot transfer a licence.
- To change or cancel a licence, contact the Food Authority Licensing Unit on (02) 6552 3000.
- If you transport eggs, you need to Apply for a food transport business licence.
