Introduction

If you hold an interstate property certificate, you may be eligible to apply for the equivalent in NSW.

A property certificate of registration lets you work as an assistant agent in:

  • real estate
  • strata management, or
  • stock and station.

You can apply for a property certificate of registration under mutual recognition online —this is generally the fastest and cheapest way to apply.

Note: A certificate of registration is only issued for 4 years and cannot be renewed. During this time, you’ll need to:

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for a mutually-recognised property certificate, you must:

  • hold a current and equivalent certificate of registration in another Australian state/territory or New Zealand
  • have your principal place of business in NSW or within 50 kilometres of the NSW border.

How to apply

Use the online form

  1. Check you're eligible to apply.
  2. Gather the required documents.
  3. Select the 'Apply online' button.
  4. Follow the prompts to complete your application.

By logging in you consent to sharing your name and email address in your MyServiceNSW Account with NSW Fair Trading, a division of the Department of Customer Service. Apply in person

If you are not able to apply online you can complete a PDF form and take it to a Service NSW service centre.

Note: submitting a PDF application may take longer to process and incur a higher fee than using the online form.

Paying by cash

Most service centres accept card payments but not all accept cash. Before you visit, check the locations where cash is not accepted.
