Learner drivers need to record their driving experience in a log book. You can choose to use:
- a paper log book, or
- the Roundtrip log book app.
Paper log book
You will be given a paper log book free of charge when you apply for your learner licence.
If it gets damaged or lost you can get a replacement learner driver log book.
Roundtrip log book app
The Roundtrip app is the only official log book app accepted by Transport for NSW. The app is free to download and use.
You can use the app to:
- record and update your driving hours
- calculate your progress towards reaching 120 driving hours, and
- ensure you have completed the 20 learning goals.
When you finish logging your 120 hours, use the app to submit your driving hours online at least 48 hours before your driving test.

Discontinued log book apps
Transport for NSW no longer accepts learner log book hours from the following apps:
- Licence Ready app (discontinued on 29 June 2024)
- L2P learner log book app (L2P app) (discontinued on 29 February 2024).
Any hours logged in the Licence Ready app or L2P app must be transferred to a paper log book by Service NSW.
To transfer your hours, visit a service centre with your NSW Driver Licence and the paper log book you were originally issued.
The service centre will retrieve, verify and sign off on your hours as a bulk entry into your paper log book. You can then continue to add your hours in the paper log book.
Notes:
- Service centres cannot retrieve or transfer your recorded hours to your paper log book if you did not enter your NSW Driver Licence in the Licence Ready app or L2P app, or entered an incorrect number.
- If you're doing your driving test using hours logged in the Licence Ready app or L2P app, please arrive at the service centre at least 1 hour prior to your driving test to retrieve and transfer your hours to a paper log book.
- A replacement paper log book can be issued at no fee only if you no longer have a log book.
