Introduction

To progress to a full licence through the NSW driver/rider graduated licensing scheme, you need to pass tests at each stage, including:

  • driver/rider knowledge test
  • hazard perception test
  • driving practical test.

You can book appointments to take these tests. To take the driver knowledge test (DKT) online, you can choose the DKT online course.

Eligibility

  • You can take a licence test when you've completed all the requirements specific to that test. There is a different minimum age requirement for each test.
  • Prepare for your driving tests by downloading handbooks and checking your skills and knowledge on practice tests.
  • To drive a heavy vehicle, you'll need the appropriate class of licence. For your heavy vehicle driving test, you'll need to meet load requirements.
  • If you have logged your hours via a log book app, you need to submit your hours through the app at least 48 hours before your practical driving test.
  • Testing requirements may differ for older drivers and riders.

What you need

  • your driver licence number, Photo Card, or TfNSW customer number (for all bookings except the driver knowledge test), and
  • your payment.

Note: When you visit a service centre for driver or rider licence testing, you'll need to prove your identity.
