Introduction

Companies or partnerships that contract, sub-contract or advertise to do residential building or trade work, need to be licensed.

You will receive a renewal notice for your company or partnership contractor licence several weeks before the expiry date.

You can apply to renew online or visit a Service NSW Centre.

What you need

To renew your company or partnership contractor licence you need your:

  • licence number
  • renewal number (as shown on your renewal notice) or your full personal details
  • fee payment.

How to renew

  1. Select the 'Renew online' button.
  2. Follow the prompts to renew your licence.

If you prefer to renew in person take your renewal notice and payment to a service centre.

What happens next

When you apply:

  • your application will be assessed by Building Commission NSW on set criteria for:
    • qualifications
    • experience, skills and knowledge (if required)
    • fitness and propriety
  • if Building Commission NSW contacts you to ask for more information the processing time may increase
  • you will be notified about the result of your application when the assessment is completed.

If you miss the renewal deadline

You cannot trade until your new licence is issued.

If you do not renew on time you can apply at a service centre within 3 months of the expiry date to restore your licence.

If your licence expired more than 3 months ago, you need to apply for a new licence to be re-issued.
