Introduction

Most heavy vehicles must have an inspection before their registration is renewed, and your renewal notice will indicate if this is the case.

If an inspection is required, but no bookings are available before the renewal date, you can renew the registration without the Heavy Vehicle Inspection Scheme (HVIS) inspection – as long you have a Heavy Vehicle Authorised Inspection Scheme (HVAIS) inspection report that's no more than 42 days old.

What you need

  • registration renewal notice, or
  • Replacement Application – PDF (if you're not the first or second registered operator and don't have your renewal notice)
  • your proof of identity
  • your vehicle identification
  • compulsory third party (CTP) insurance receipt (green slip)
  • an HVAIS inspection certificate, no more than 42 days old
  • proof of eligibility for concession (if required)
  • fee payment.

How to renew

  1. Gather the required documents.
  2. Visit a Service NSW Centre, or call 13 77 88
