Introduction

The Combat Sports Authority of NSW grants registration in accordance with the Combat Sports Act 2013.

You can apply online to register as an industry participant and promoter to carry out activities at combat sport contests in NSW.  The roles an industry participant and promoter may apply to be registered for include:

  • trainer
  • referee
  • judge
  • timekeeper
  • promoter
  • manager
  • matchmaker.

Registration expires 3 years from the date granted, unless cancelled earlier, or the term is extended or reduced.

Eligibility

If applying for promoter, manager or matchmaker registration classes you must be aged 18 or over.

Note: You must not be a controlled member of a declared organisation under the Crimes (Criminal Organisations Control) Act 2012.

If you've been registered as a combatant before, but have changed your name, you need to inform the Authority by completing the change of name form before you re-apply.

Proof of identity

There are 2 ways you can verify your identity.

Document verification

Document verification is recommended for Australian citizens and residents. During the online application you enter the details of your identity documents. The details of those documents are checked against other government records using the Document Verification Service.

You'll need to provide 2 documents from list 1, or 1 document from list 1, plus 1 document from list 2.

List 1

  • Australian driver licence
  • Australian passport
  • Aviation security identification card
  • Foreign passport (Australian visa)
  • Maritime security identification card

List 2

  • Australian birth certificate
  • Australian certificate of registration by descent
  • Australian citizenship certificate
  • Centrelink cards (Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card or Commonwealth Seniors Health Card)
  • lmmiCard
  • Medicare card
  • Veteran cards (Veteran Repatriation Heath Card, Veteran Pensioner Concession Card or Veteran Seniors Health Card)

Manual verification

Manual verification is required if you are either 14 or 15 years of age and is recommended if you live outside Australia or you cannot meet the document verification requirements. During the online application you’ll upload 3 types of certified identity documents.

How to apply

  1. Check the eligibility requirements.
  2. Gather the required documents.
  3. Select the ‘Apply online’ button.
  4. Log in, or create your MyServiceNSW Account.
  5. Follow the prompts to apply for your combat sports industry participant and promoter registration. 


Note: You can save and resume your application, but if you have not submitted it within 60 days, any details you’ve entered will be deleted. 

Once you've submitted your application, you'll get an email confirmation and payment receipt.

Privacy

To apply for combat sports registration with the Combat Sports Authority of NSW (NSW Office of Sport), you’ll need to create or log in with a MyServiceNSW Account.

By logging in you consent to sharing your name and email address in your MyServiceNSW Account with the NSW Office of Sport.

More information

  • Emails are used to communicate with you throughout the application process. To ensure you don't miss out on important information you should:
    • update your email address within 14 days of the change occurring using the change contact details transaction
    • regularly check your spam folder
    • add noreply@sport.nsw.gov.au to your contacts.
  • If your application is incomplete, or you fail to provide the required information, your application will be delayed and may be refused. If your application is refused there is no provision for a refund of your registration application fee.
  • You'll get an industry participant identity card which will be mailed to your postal address within 10 business days.
  • Applications for promoter, manager and matchmaker are referred to the Commissioner of Police for a security determination. This may take several weeks. Promoters must allow sufficient time for their application to be considered. It is an offence to arrange a combat sport contest unless registered in the appropriate promoter class.
