Introduction

Opal cards are smartcard tickets that you use to pay for travel on public transport in NSW. You add value to your card, and then tap on and tap off to pay your fare.

The Opal network includes train, bus, ferry and light rail services in Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Hunter, Illawarra and Southern Highlands.

The Opal ticketing system gives you cheaper fares, daily, weekly and Sunday fare caps, and discounted train fares if you travel outside peak hours.

To find out about all the benefits that are available, visit Opal.
