Dine & Discover extended

The Dine & Discover NSW Voucher scheme has been extended. Make sure you register your business to accept vouchers before the scheme closes on 31 August 2021.

The NSW Government has launched Dine & Discover NSW to encourage the community to get out and about and support dining, arts and recreation businesses.

NSW residents aged 18 and over can apply for 4 x $25 vouchers, worth $100 in total.

  • 2 x $25 Dine NSW Vouchers to be used for dining in at restaurants, cafés, bars, wineries, pubs and clubs or for takeaway meals.
  • 2 x $25 Discover NSW Vouchers to be used for entertainment and recreation, including cultural institutions, live music, and arts venues.

The vouchers:

Once approved as a Dine & Discover NSW business, you’ll be able to accept and redeem vouchers straightaway. You'll be able to do this through the Service NSW for Business app.

Vouchers are available to all NSW residents aged 18 and over.

Business eligibility

What is the eligibility criteria for a business?

To register a business, you must:

  • have an active ABN – ensure your details are correct on the Australian Business Register before registering
  • operate in NSW
  • be registered as COVID Safe and have a COVID-19 Safety Plan
  • operate in one of these eligible industries:
    • cafés and restaurants  
    • pubs, taverns, wineries, bars and clubs 
    • scenic and sightseeing transport 
    • cinemas 
    • museums, galleries and historic sites 
    • zoos, botanic gardens, wildlife parks and nature reserves
    • live music operations, performing arts operations, theatres and entertainment centres 
    • amusement, theme and water parks 
    • recreational activities such as go-karting, indoor climbing, mini-golf, billiards, bowling or ice-rinks
    • outdoor adventures
    • travel agencies and tours.

What information is required to register a business?

You'll need:

  • a MyServiceNSW Account
  • 2 personal identity documents such as an Australian driver licence, Medicare card, Australian Passport
  • your business details - Australian Business Number (ABN), name, address, phone number and industry type. 
    Note:  Your identity document name details must match the name details held with the Australian Business Register (ABR) for your ABN
  • the business bank account details (to receive your payments).

Can I register my takeaway business?

Yes, takeaway businesses are now eligible to register for the scheme. 

What is the eligibility criteria for vouchers?

Businesses can only redeem Dine & Discover NSW Vouchers used for eligible activities:

  • Dine NSW Vouchers - for customers dining in or buying takeaway meals.
  • Discover NSW Vouchers - for eligible arts, tourism or recreational activities listed in the eligible industries above. These may be redeemed online for a physical event or attraction.
  • Vouchers can be used 7 days a week, including public holidays.

Businesses cannot redeem vouchers for:

  • products or services involving alcohol, gambling or tobacco
  • cash, even if the full value of the voucher is not redeemed
  • online-only services and food delivery orders.

Registration

How do I register?

If you meet the eligibility requirements, you can register a business for Dine & Discover NSW online.

Do I need to register separately for each business location?

If you want each business location to participate in Dine & Discover NSW, you need to register each of them individually.

I have a business in both voucher categories, do I need to register twice?

No, you only need to register once.  

My ABN is not in an eligible industry but I operate other businesses that should be eligible. Can I register those?

You can call 13 77 88 and speak with a Business Concierge. They'll be able to discuss your unique situation and assist you with your registration.

If your ANZSIC code is not a true reflection of your business activities, you can update it on the Australian Business Register. You should seek advice from an accountant or financial advisor before doing this, as making a change may have tax or other implications.

How long does it take for my registration to be assessed once submitted?

You'll receive instant confirmation that your registration has been received. It may take up to 5 business days for Service NSW to review and finalise registration. 

Can someone else register the business on my behalf?

Yes, if the person's name is on the Australian Business Register (ABR) record. 

If a person other than a registered representative of the business wants to register the business, you can call 13 77 88 and speak with a Business Concierge. 

Redeeming vouchers

Important information 

To take part in Dine & Discover NSW you'll need a phone or tablet to scan and accept vouchers using the Service NSW for Business app. Service NSW will provide app details to businesses accepted into the scheme.

When can I start accepting and redeeming vouchers?

Once approved as a Dine & Discover NSW business, you’ll be able to accept and redeem vouchers straightaway.

You’ll need to download the Service NSW for Business app and install it on each mobile device that will scan vouchers at your business.    

What activities can the vouchers be accepted for?

  • Dine NSW Vouchers - customers seated at your business for a dine-in meal.
  • Discover NSW Vouchers - for eligible arts, tourism or recreational activities listed in the eligible industries. These may be redeemed online for a physical event or attraction.

Are there any activities that are excluded?

Yes, businesses cannot accept vouchers, and will not be reimbursed for:

  • products or services involving alcohol, gambling or tobacco
  • cash, even if the full value of the voucher is not redeemed
  • online-only services and food delivery orders.

What days can I accept the vouchers?  

You can accept Dine NSW Vouchers and Discover NSW Vouchers 7 days a week, including public holidays.

If a customer presents a Dine NSW Voucher with Monday to Thursday printed on it, can I accept it any day of the week?

Yes, you can now accept Dine NSW Vouchers 7 days a week, as long as the voucher code is still valid. 

If a customer presents a voucher with a 30 June 2021 expiry date, can I accept it after that date?

Yes, the Dine & Discover NSW Voucher scheme has been extended. Customers now have until 31 August to use their vouchers.

What do the vouchers look like?

Vouchers will be in the form of a QR code, with each one having a unique code. 

Your customer may present a voucher to you:

  • on their mobile as a digital voucher within the Service NSW app
  • as a printed voucher with a QR code and unique voucher code
  • as a PDF with a QR code and unique voucher code
  • as an SMS with a unique code 
  • by telling you the unique voucher code.

How do I scan the vouchers?

To accept vouchers, use the Service NSW for Business app on your connected device to scan the digital or printed QR code. You can also manually enter the unique voucher code.   

You’ll need to download the Service NSW for Business app and install it on each mobile device that will scan vouchers at your business. 

How do I check if a voucher is valid?

The Service NSW for Business app will only accept vouchers that are valid.

Can I accept more than one voucher for the same bill?

Yes, customers can combine their vouchers towards the same bill (if the business allows bill-splitting). However, each customer can only redeem one voucher at your business per day.

What do I do if the customer bill is less than $25?

The customer doesn’t receive the leftover amount, nor does your business. 

For example, if a customer spends $20, only $20 can be redeemed against the voucher. The remaining $5 is forfeited by both your business and the customer.  

Can I accept Dine NSW Vouchers at my food court business?

Yes, you can accept a Dine NSW Voucher.

Businesses cannot redeem vouchers for food delivery orders. 

Can I offer a gift voucher in exchange for a Dine & Discover NSW Voucher?

Businesses cannot offer cash, a gift voucher or a credit note in exchange for a Dine & Discover NSW Voucher. Businesses can accept a voucher for an experience that takes place after the scheme ends, as long as the voucher is redeemed before 31 August. 

For example, you can accept a Discover NSW Voucher for an experience that takes place on 15 September, as long as the customer uses the voucher to pay by 31 August. You are not able to accept a Discover NSW Voucher to pay for a gift voucher.  

Reimbursements

How long will it take to be paid for the vouchers I've redeemed?

There is a one-off validation of your Dine & Discover NSW account which may take up to 10 business days.

After that, you'll receive payments into your nominated bank account within 5 business days of you redeeming the vouchers. 

Where can I see how many vouchers I've redeemed?

You can keep track of voucher payments to your business in your Service NSW Business Profile.

Only the person who registered on behalf of your business will be able to access this information.

How do the vouchers affect my GST and tax obligations?   

Vouchers are included in assessable income and you’ll need to report GST on the total amount of voucher payments you receive.

How do I report a person or a Dine & Discover NSW business for suspected fraudulent activity?

Call Service NSW on 13 77 88 if you suspect that a person or business associated with the Dine & Discover Voucher Scheme, is involved in fraudulent activity.  
 
Service NSW will investigate the allegations based on all the available details. Please provide as much information as possible, including:

  • the name of the person or business 
  • the date of the incident
  • the type of Dine & Discover NSW Voucher 
  • a summary of the allegation you’re reporting
  • your contact details (you can remain anonymous, if preferred)

Your information will remain confidential (unless sharing is required by law). 

If evidence of criminal behaviour is identified, we may pass this information to the NSW Police for further investigation. 

We may also use the information to decide whether the person or business can take part in the Dine & Discover NSW Voucher Scheme in the future.
