Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is required for all MyServiceNSW Accounts. It will help keep your account secure.

Before you go overseas

We recommend you set up at least 2 methods of MFA. This is so you can always access your account.

Learn what you’ll need to use each method.

Text message (SMS)

You’ll need access to an Australian mobile number whilst overseas. That means, you’ll need mobile reception and international roaming.

We cannot send the MFA code to an international mobile number.

If you cannot access your Australian mobile number while overseas, you’ll need to set up a different MFA method.

Service NSW app

To get notifications in your Service NSW app, you’ll need access to the internet (or have international roaming with mobile data turned on).

You can always get a 'one-time code’ in the Service NSW app, even if you cannot access the internet. This is also useful if you did not receive the notification in the Service NSW app

The Service NSW app is a more secure method of MFA than text message (SMS).

Authenticator app

You can use an authenticator app (for example, Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator) if you cannot access the internet or an Australian mobile number.

A reputable authenticator app is a more secure method of MFA than text message (SMS).

If you’re already overseas

You’ll need to contact us if:

  • your mobile device is lost or stolen, OR

  • you cannot access your Australian mobile number and do not have another method of MFA (that is, Service NSW app or authenticator app), OR

  • you cannot access the mobile device with the authenticator or Service NSW app and cannot log in using text message (SMS), OR

  • you cannot access your email and have forgotten your MyServiceNSW Account password.
