COVID-19 information

As part of the NSW Government’s economic stimulus package, licence fees have been waived on 1-year new applications and renewals lodged between 15 April 2020 and 14 April 2021. For 3-year applications and renewals, the licence fee is discounted by 1 year.


Builders and tradespeople in NSW need to be licensed to do building work. When you receive your renewal notice, you can renew your contractor licence online, provided you meet the eligibility requirements.

If you don't meet the requirements please visit a service centre to renew your licence.


You're not able to renew online, if:

  • you want to seek an exemption from continuing professional development (CPD) obligations, or
  • you need make changes to your licence other than your contact details and address.

What you need

  • your licence number
  • your renewal number (as shown on your renewal notice), or your full personal details
  • your payment.

How to renew

  1. Select the 'Renew online' button.
  2. Select 'Next'.
  3. Enter your licence and renewal numbers as shown on your renewal notice. (If you don't have your renewal number, select 'Don't have?' and enter your full details.)
  4. Select 'Next'.
  5. Review your details and update (if applicable).
  6. Certify the declaration.
  7. Enter your payment details.

More information

  • General building work licences and qualified supervisor certificates can only be renewed for one year. All other licences and certificates offer the option of a 3-year renewal.
  • If you don't renew on time you'll have to make an application to restore your licence, which can be done at a service centre.
  • If your licence has expired more than 3 months, you'll need to apply for a new licence to be re-issued.
  • You cannot trade until your new licence is issued.
